Pronunciation: Why Word Stress Is Important

The woman who made this video lives in the western part of Ireland.

At about 0:55, she says “Pronouncing every word correctly leads to poor pronunciation.” By this, she means that pronouncing every word clearly with its “dictionary pronunciation” will lead to unnatural stress which means “poor pronunciation.” This doesn’t mean that you should mispronounce words, but that words are pronounced differently depending on how they are used.
