Charles Kelly's Macintalk Songs
From this page you can hear a Macintosh computer sing.
This page is perhaps only intersting to those using an old Macintosh or those who have an interest in the historical development of the Mac.
This page shows one of the things that was possible on Macs before MacOS X.
This page only works on a Macintosh using MacOS 9 or earlier.
- This was cool while it lasted, but the Apple Computer company has made it obsolete.
- It requires a Macintosh using pre-MacOS X.
If you are using MacOS 10 or later, the plugin does not work even in classic mode, you'll need to restart your computer in MacOS 9, then install the free plugin (see below).
I assume this is too much trouble for most people, but I've left this page online for those who might find this interesting.
- Of course, this means an Intel Mac has no chance of running this at all, since now Apple has made applications requiring MacOS 9 or earlier obsolete.
- System Requirements
- You need a Macintosh with Macintalk installed.
- You must be using either Netscape or a recent version of Explorer.
- You must have the Talker plug-in (12k) installed.
- MacOS 9 and Earlier: Download it, unstuff it, put it into the plugins folder in Netscape or Explorer, then restart Netscape or Explorer.
- MacOS 10 and Later: This plugin does not work with MacOS X or its classic mode.
MacOS X users, will need to restart their computers in MacOS 9.2 or older. (That's probably too much trouble for most of you, so this is one of those pages that the Apple company has made obsolete.)
- Notes:
- You may stop the songs by pressing the esc key.
- Depending on your setup, all the voices in multi-part songs may not be heard.
