How To Configure Your Web Browser to Play MIDI Files With an External MIDI Player
Before you do this, you should note that the newer browsers using MIDI plugins will play MIDI files quite well, so there is little need to do this anymore.

This is how to configure Netscape to automatically play MIDI files with your MIDI player. Other browsers have similar settings.
- Open the "Options" menu.
- Choose the "General Preferences..." option.
- Choose "Helpers"
- Click the "New..." button.
- Enter the following information.
- Mime type: application
(You can also input "audio" as the Mime type, but then your MIDI plugin may play the file instead of your MIDI player.)
- Subtype: x-midi
- Extensions: mid
- Application: (Click the "Browse..." button and find your MIDI Player (MidPlay, Arnold's MIDI Player, etc.)
- Filetype: Midi
- Action: Launch Application
- Close the window.
Note: With this setting, if you want to download a file instead of playing it, you can option-click the link to the MIDI file.
